The Rays get an early look at their 2025 temporary home Friday when they face the Yankees in the spring training opener at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
It’s a unique situation brought on by Hurricane Milton’s October destruction of Tropicana Field’s roof. The Rays will call Steinbrenner Field – the Yankees’ spring facility and home to their Single-A Tarpons – their temporary home for the 2025 season.
Friday’s game marks the first of two spring matchups the Rays will play at their future temporary home, with the second coming March 23. They’ll make their regular-season debut there March 28 against the Rockies.
For the Yankees, all eyes will be on Marcus Stroman’s first start in pinstripes. The veteran righty made waves last week by firmly stating he’s a starter, not a reliever. With New York’s rotation already featuring newcomer Max Fried, Stroman’s looking to cement his role from the get-go.
