Yankees Could Bring Back Verdugo to Fill Stanton Void

The Yankees lineup took a major hit before spring training games even began with Giancarlo Stanton sidelined by tendon injuries in both elbows. With Stanton unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, the Bronx Bombers may need to hunt for offensive help.

One surprising option? A reunion with Alex Verdugo.

The left fielder remains available on the free-agent market, and Drew VonScio of Newsweek thinks bringing him back makes sense.

“The Yankees could probably get Verdugo on a one-year, $9 million deal. It would help the organization fill a temporary need while giving Verdugo a chance to bet on himself before hitting free agency again in 2026. Even if Stanton returns in a month, it doesn’t hurt the Yankees to have an additional depth piece,” VonScio wrote.

Let’s be honest – Yankees fans wouldn’t exactly celebrate Verdugo’s return. He struggled for most of his time in pinstripes. But maybe growing facial hair again (now that he’s allowed) could change his fortunes in the Bronx.

What makes this interesting is that despite his on-field issues, Verdugo was well-liked in the clubhouse. He’d also provide defensive depth in left field, which matters considering Jasson Dominguez’s concerning struggles this spring.

The timeline for Stanton’s return remains unclear. But the longer he’s sidelined, the more likely the Yankees will need to make some kind of addition to shore up thier offense.
