The Yankees made plenty of noise at the 2025 trade deadline, bringing in **Ryan McMahon**, **Camilo Doval**, **David Bednar**, and **Jose Caballero** during their shopping spree. While the results were mixed, those moves generally helped in the second half.
But they had their sights set on an even bigger target.
According to Ryan Garcia of Empire Sports Media, the Yankees offered **Jasson Dominguez** to the Minnesota Twins in a package for closer **Jhoan Duran**. That deal never materialized, and Duran eventually landed with the Philadelphia Phillies instead.
“The team would offer him in a package seven months later for Jhoan Duran, who would eventually be dealt to the Phillies, sources told Empire Sports Media.”
This wasn’t the first time Dominguez’s name surfaced in trade talks. The Yankees considered including him in an offseason deal for Kyle Tucker before the Cubs swooped in. Now it’s clear they’re willing to move their former top prospect for the right piece.
That willingness tells you something about where things stand with Dominguez.
The 22-year-old outfielder hit **.257** with a **.719 OPS** and **0.5 bWAR** across 123 games last season. Those numbers don’t exactly scream “untouchable prospect” anymore. What was once considered the organization’s crown jewel hasn’t put it together at the big league level yet.
Duran would’ve been a nice get for the Yankees’ bullpen. The 27-year-old right-hander is under club control through 2027 and showed why he was so coveted after the deadline move. He posted a **2.18 ERA** with **16 saves** in 23 games for Philadelphia, striking out 27 batters in 20.2 innings.
Before the trade, Duran was even better in Minnesota – a **2.01 ERA** with **16 saves** across 49 appearances. The Phillies didn’t make it past the NLDS, but Duran held up his end when called upon.
What makes this report particularly interesting isn’t just the Yankees’ interest in Duran. It’s what it suggests about Dominguez’s future in pinstripes.
If **Brian Cashman** was willing to include him in a deadline deal, there’s no reason to think that changes this winter. The Yankees need to maximize their championship window, and Dominguez hasn’t shown he can be a significant contributor yet.
That doesn’t mean he won’t develop into a solid player elsewhere. Sometimes a change of scenery works wonders for prospects who haven’t clicked with their original organization. But the Yankees seem ready to cash in his remaining prospect value while they can.
With another busy offseason ahead, don’t be surprised if Dominguez finds himself in a different uniform come spring training. The Yankees have shown their hand – they’re open to moving him for the right return.
