Jazz Chisholm Jr. keeps showing up in trade rumors, but Yankees manager Aaron Boone expects his second baseman to stick around for 2025.

The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner asked Boone directly about the trade speculation surrounding Chisholm and whether he’d still be wearing pinstripes come opening day.

“I do. But again, you never know what’s going to happen as teams are maneuvering their rosters and whatever. I do expect him, but you never know what’s going to happen where teams match up on certain things, but, no, I’m planning on him being right in the middle of the lineup.”

That’s the kind of answer that keeps fans guessing. Boone sounds confident but leaves room for the unexpected – which is pretty much how every offseason goes.

The Yankees acquired Chisholm at the 2024 trade deadline, and he’s been everything they hoped for and more. In 176 games with New York, he’s mashed 42 home runs and swiped 49 bases. Last season alone, he went 31-31 in homers and steals while earning his second All-Star selection.

Those numbers explain why teams are calling. A 26-year-old who can provide that kind of power-speed combination doesn’t hit the market often.

What makes this situation interesting is the timing. The Yankees are clearly trying to retool after falling short in the World Series, and Chisholm’s value has never been higher. Teams looking for impact bats are probably willing to pay premium prices.

But here’s the thing – why would the Yankees move a guy who’s producing at an elite level and fits their timeline? Unless they’re getting blown away by an offer or desperately need to address other areas, it doesn’t make much sense.

Boone’s comments suggest the organization wants to keep him. The “planning on him being right in the middle of the lineup” part sounds pretty definitive. But that caveat about teams matching up on deals? That’s GM Brian Cashman keeping his options open.

For now, expect Chisholm to be penciled into the Yankees’ 2025 plans. But as Boone said, you never know what’s going to happen when teams start making moves.
