Aaron Judge is on another planet right now.
The Yankees slugger’s dominance shows up in plenty of ways, but here’s one that really puts it in perspective after Friday’s return from the All-Star break.
Judge’s OPS sits at 1.188 this season. That’s not just good – it’s otherworldly.
Second place? That’s Cal Raleigh at 1.005. The Mariners catcher has been fantastic, don’t get me wrong. But he’s still way behind Judge.
How far behind exactly?
The gap between Raleigh and Judge (.183) is the exact same distance from Raleigh down to Jacob Wilson, the Athletics’ rookie shortstop sitting 40th at .822.
Think about that for a second. Judge is as far ahead of the second-best hitter as that guy is ahead of someone barely cracking the top 40.
It sounds impossible, but that’s just how much better Judge has been than everyone else this year.
If he keeps this pace, we’re looking at one of the greatest hitting seasons in baseball history.
