Jonathan Loaisiga has officially moved on from the Yankees, signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a free agent this offseason.
The 31-year-old reliever made it official with a heartfelt Instagram post Saturday, saying goodbye to the Bronx in both Spanish and English.
“Saying goodbye to the New York Yankees means closing a very important chapter in my life, filled with challenges, growth and moments I will carry with me forever.”
It’s the end of an era that showed flashes of brilliance but never quite reached its full potential.
Loaisiga compiled a 3.54 ERA during his Yankees tenure while averaging 8.4 strikeouts per nine innings. The stuff was always there – a fastball that could touch the upper 90s and a slider that kept hitters off balance.
But health became the story. Injuries limited his availability and prevented him from establishing himself as the reliable bullpen piece the Yankees hoped he’d become when they signed him out of Nicaragua.
The Diamondbacks are betting they can unlock what’s left of that talent on what’s essentially a low-risk deal with some upside potential. At 31, Loaisiga still has a few good years in him if he can stay on the field.
Arizona’s track record with reclamation projects makes this an intriguing fit. They’ve shown they can get the most out of veteran arms who need a fresh start.

The Yankees still have plenty of talent in their bullpen, though consistency and health remain question marks across the roster. There’s a chance they’ll miss Loaisiga’s upside, especially if he finds his groove in the desert.
But that’s baseball. Sometimes a change of scenery is exactly what a player needs to rediscover their their best form.
