Fathers often serve as a baseball player’s first catch partner, making Father’s Day especially meaningful across Major League Baseball.
Players throughout the league will honor their dads Sunday with light blue gear and bats as part of a growing tradition that’s becoming as recognizable as the pink equipment used on Mother’s Day.
The blue accessories aren’t just for show. MLB is partnering with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to dedicate Father’s Day to raising awareness for the fight against prostate cancer nationwide. The light blue represents the official awareness ribbon color for prostate cancer.
“Major League players may continue to use blue, customized, cause-inspired equipment, such as bats provided by Marucci, Victus, or another approved bat supplier,” MLB announced.
You’ll spot the light blue touches in socks, wristbands and catching gear throughout Sunday’s games.
It’s one of those days where baseball feels bigger than the game itself. Ballparks will be filled with fathers and their kids, while players on the field think about their own children and the dads who first taught them to love this sport.
In a sport that plays nearly every day, these subtle differences matter. They show how baseball connects generations and honors the people who help shape players long before they reach the big leagues.
Should be a perfect day for baseball for all the right reasons.
