The Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs had to delay their Friday night game for one of baseball’s more unusual reasons — pitcher Kumar Rocker’s white sleeves.

That’s right — the umpires made Rocker change his undershirt before the game could start.

The reasoning is pretty straightforward when you think about it. The baseball is white, and white sleeves sit right where hitters are trying to pick up the ball out of a pitcher’s hand.
White-on-white creates a camouflage effect that can make it tougher for batters to track the pitch. It’s a competitive advantage issue.
The Rule Makes Sense
Now, the rule has to apply to every pitcher regardless of their release point or delivery. Some guys might create more of a distraction than others, but you can’t start making case-by-case exceptions.
What’s interesting is that Rocker made it all the way out to warm up before anyone caught the issue. Usually this stuff gets sorted in the clubhouse or during pregame.
But rules are rules, and once the umps spotted the white sleeves, the game couldn’t start until Rocker switched to a different undershirt. Just another one of those quirky baseball moments that reminds you how detailed the rulebook really gets.
