Team USA gets its first real test Tuesday when it takes on the San Francisco Giants in a pre-World Baseball Classic exhibition at Scottsdale Stadium. It’s the kind of game that should give manager Mark DeRosa plenty to think about before the tournament starts.
The roster’s loaded with talent — Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Alex Bregman — but only five players return from the 2023 squad. That means DeRosa’s working with a mostly new group, and these exhibition games against the Giants and Wednesday’s matchup with the Colorado Rockies will be crucial for figuring out how the pieces fit.
Team USA opens tournament play Friday against Brazil, so there’s not much time to waste.

World Baseball Classic Schedule
The tournament officially kicks off Wednesday night with Australia and Chinese Taipei in Tokyo. Most teams begin play Friday across three cities — San Juan, Miami, and Houston.
Team USA’s opener is Friday night against Brazil at Daikin Park in Houston.
