What channel is Yankees vs Red Sox on & why Sunday Night Baseball broadcast isn’t on NBC image

Yankees and Red Sox facing off on “Sunday Night Baseball” is nothing new, but tonight’s AL East showdown comes with a twist – it’s airing on NBC’s version of the broadcast instead of ESPN’s long-running edition.

There’s just one catch. The game won’t start on NBC.

Weather delays at the Travelers Championship have pushed “Sunday Night Baseball” to alternate platforms for the opening innings. Yankees-Red Sox will begin on Peacock and NBC Sports Network while golf wraps up on the main network.

Here’s how it breaks down: The Travelers Championship was supposed to finish by 7 p.m. ET, clearing the way for baseball. Instead, thunderstorms hit just before 6 p.m. with leaders still needing to play as many as five holes.

The scheduling conflict gets complicated by NBC’s other golf coverage. The network is also airing the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, which moved over from Golf Channel. That means the Travelers Championship can’t shift to Golf Channel, leaving baseball as the odd sport out.

Golf resumes around 7:20 p.m. ET on NBC, but baseball starts at 7 p.m. on the alternate platforms with Jason Benetti calling the action.

What This Means for Viewers

Yankees and Red Sox fans will need to tune into Peacock or NBCSN to catch first pitch. Given how quickly games move in the pitch clock era, there’s a good chance most of the game stays on those platforms.

It’s not the debut NBC probably envisioned for it’s Sunday night baseball coverage, but it gives viewers a chance to get familiar with the new broadcast team before the inevitable move to the main network later in the season.

For now, it’s Peacock and NBCSN handling one of baseball’s most storied rivalries while Mother Nature sorts out the golf schedule.
