The first Subway Series of the year kicks off Friday as the New York Mets host the New York Yankees for a three-game set at Citi Field.
Both teams are heading in opposite directions lately. The Yankees have cooled off from their blistering 15-2 start, dropping six of their last eight games after losing series to the Orioles and Brewers. The Mets, meanwhile, have completely turned things around from that brutal 12-game losing streak in April and just swept the Tigers this week.
Friday’s matchup features two of the season’s best pitchers so far. Clay Holmes takes the mound for the Mets against the Yankees’ Cam Schlittler.
Holmes has been rock solid with a 1.86 ERA and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his eight starts. Schlittler’s been even better – his 1.35 ERA trails only Shohei Ohtani, and he’s thrown shutouts in six of his nine starts.
That’s a recipe for a pitcher’s duel in Queens.
