The Dominican Republic enters Friday’s quarterfinal against Korea as the tournament’s most potent offensive force after sweeping through group play with a perfect 4-0 record.
The numbers tell the story. The Dominicans put up 41 runs in four games – that’s 10.25 per contest, the only team averaging double digits. Five different players already have two home runs each: Junior Caminero, Oneil Cruz, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Juan Soto, and Fernando Tatis Jr.
It’s been all about power and run production, and so far, it’s working perfectly.
Korea took a different path to the quarterfinals, finishing 2-2 in group play but earning just enough to advance. They’re riding Bo Gyeong Moon, who leads the entire tournament with 11 RBIs while hitting .538.
But here’s the challenge for Korea: they finished with the lowest team batting average (.243) among all quarterfinalists. Now they’re facing a Dominican buzzsaw that’s been steamrolling opponents.
Home Field Advantage
The setting matters here. loanDepot Park has essentially become Dominican territory during this tournament. The drums, the singing, the energy – it’s been electric since their first game. Korea’s played all their games in the controlled environment of the Tokyo Dome.
That’s a big adjustment when you’re already facing long odds against this Dominican lineup.

Korea’s got Moon swinging a hot bat and nothing to lose. But the Dominican Republic’s offensive machine has been relentless, and they’ve got the crowd behind them. It’ll take something special from the Koreans to slow down this freight train.
