The World Series is back in Toronto for the first time in 32 years.
The Blue Jays and defending champion Dodgers open their best-of-seven set Friday with a pitching matchup that perfectly captures the contrast between these two teams that’ve made it this far.
Los Angeles will send Blake Snell to the mound, hoping the veteran lefty continues what’s been a dominant postseason run. The 32-year-old has allowed just two runs in 21 innings across three starts while striking out 28 batters.
While Snell’s making his 14th postseason start, the Blue Jays are turning once again to rookie Trey Yesavage. When the 22-year-old delivers the first pitch of the World Series, he’ll have made more postseason starts (four) than regular-season starts in his young career.
That’s the kind of October story that makes this matchup so compelling.
Can Yesavage contain Shohei Ohtani and a deep, experienced Dodgers lineup? Can Snell do something no other pitcher this October has managed and limit the damage from Vladimir Guerrero Jr.?
