Tyler Glasnow has been anchoring the Los Angeles Dodgers’ rotation for three seasons now, ever since Tampa Bay traded him in December 2023. The Rays also sent outfielder Manuel Margot and cash to LA, getting back outfielder Jonny DeLuca and right-hander Ryan Pepiot.
The deal’s worked out pretty well for the Dodgers. Glasnow made his first All-Star team in 2024 and helped deliver back-to-back World Series titles in 2024 and 2025.
But here’s the twist – it took a country music star to get the deal done.
Country singer Brad Paisley recently appeared on the YouTube show “Dodgers Territory” and revealed he helped Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman land Glasnow. Paisley and Friedman invited Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander and other Tampa Bay executives to his house to hammer out the trade.
“Eight Tampa Bay Rays front office people walk in, and we’ve already got about 30 Dodgers,” Paisley said on Dodgers Territory. “They stayed till four in the morning and called an Uber, one of the front office people with one of the team’s faces planted in the front yard.”
Friedman called Paisley the next day with a simple message: “You get the assist.”
The Dodgers wasted no time locking up their new ace. Glasnow signed a five-year, $136.6 million extension after the trade.
In his three seasons in Dodger blue, the right-hander’s posted a 14-9 record with a 3.35 ERA. He’s struck out 289 batters in 236.1 innings, giving LA the frontline starter they needed to get over the hump.
Not bad for a deal that got finished at a country star’s house party.
