Texas A&M Baseball Miraculous Double Grand Slam Comeback Defies Belief image

Baseball just gave us something we’ve never seen before.

Texas A&M pulled off an absolutely stunning comeback Saturday against South Carolina in SEC play that featured not one, but two grand slams in the same inning.

The Aggies entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 12-7. What happened next was nothing short of extraordinary.

Kaeden Kent started the rally with a leadoff single. Blake Binderup followed with a single of his own, and Ben Royo walked to load the bases. With no outs, pinch-hitter Hayden Schott stepped to the plate and launched a grand slam to cut the deficit to 12-11.

The momentum was clearly shifting, but the Aggies weren’t done.

After an out, Jace Laviolette singled. Another out followed, but Caden Sorrell and Bear Harrison each drew walks to load the bases again. That brought Kent back to the plate for his second at-bat of the inning.

On the fourth pitch, Kent crushed a no-doubt grand slam well beyond the right-field fence for a walk-off winner. The Aggies had somehow scored eight runs in the ninth inning – all via grand slams – to complete a remarkable comeback after once trailing 12-2.

It’s hard to imagine this has ever happened before at any significant level of baseball. Two grand slams in the same inning to win a game? That’s unheard of in SEC play or the major leagues.

This is why baseball remains so special. As Yogi Berra famously said, “It ain’t over till it’s over.” Texas A&M embodied that spirit perfectly Saturday evening in College Station.

The way this comeback unfolded – with the same player (Kent) both starting the rally and finishing it with a walk-off grand slam – makes it even more remarkable. College baseball continues to deliver some of the sport’s most exciting moments, and this one belongs in a category all its own.
