The Los Angeles Dodgers are making moves at the trade deadline – it’s not a question of if, but who they’re targeting. Andrew Friedman is already working the phones, looking to position his team for another championship run.

With this roster’s payroll, there’s really only one option: keep adding talent.

The Dodgers need starting pitching help. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow haven’t delivered what LA was hoping for, whether due to injuries or performance. That’s created a clear need in the rotation.

I know it sounds wild to say the Dodgers need anything, but they absolutely need more starting depth. No matter how you look at what they’ve built over the past few years, that hole exists.

Tarik Skubal is the prize everyone’s chasing. But the Tigers ace recently made some comments about potential trades that don’t exactly sound like a guy expecting to move.

“We’ve been counted out before,” Skubal told the Detroit Free Press. “Rightfully so, we were counted out, and rightfully so, we’re counted out right now. It’s the back-against-the-wall type of thing. We’ll see who we really are and how we fight. I’ve seen it before, and that gives me a ton of confidence in this group.”

Now, Skubal might just be saying the right things here. He clearly respects the Detroit fanbase and doesn’t want to ruffle feathers.

But these comments feel different than typical trade deadline speak. This doesn’t sound like a guy who thinks he’s getting moved. That’s something the Dodgers – and every other contender eyeing Skubal – will have to factor into their plans.
