Stephen Vogt has proven he’s the right fit for the Cleveland Guardians. Taking over for Terry Francona wasn’t going to be easy, but the former All-Star catcher has made it look natural through his first three seasons.

The results speak for themselves. Two AL Central titles and a 191-153 record. That’s the kind of start that builds credibility fast.

What makes Vogt effective goes beyond the wins and losses. He keeps things loose in the clubhouse, and his playful side showed up this week when the Baltimore Orioles came to town. Craig Albernaz, Baltimore’s new manager, got a reminder of exactly what kind of person his former boss is.

Albernaz worked as Vogt’s right-hand man from 2023 to 2025, helping build the foundation for Cleveland’s recent success. The Orioles liked what they saw enough to hire him as their manager for the 2026 season.

The friendship between the two managers made for perfect prank material. According to Jake Rill of MLB.com, Vogt had Albernaz’s visiting manager office completely redecorated before his arrival.

Every piece of furniture was swapped out for child-sized versions. Desk, chairs, everything scaled down to kid proportions. The shower curtain? Spider-Man themed. Random Bluey cartoon items scattered around for good measure.

That’s who Vogt is.

He understands that baseball’s a long season and keeping guys loose matters. When players see their manager has that kind of personality, it’s easier to buy into what he’s selling. They’re more willing to put in the work because they genuinely want to play for him.

Losing Francona felt like the end of an era, and it was. But Vogt’s shown he can fill those shoes without trying to be someone he’s not. At 41, he’s got plenty of time to build his own legacy in Cleveland.

So far, he’s doing exactly that.
