Shohei Ohtani took home his fourth Silver Slugger award Thursday, continuing his dominance as the National League’s best hitter at designated hitter.

Major League Baseball announced the NL Silver Slugger winners, recognizing the top offensive player at each position. While the Dodgers had several finalists, only Ohtani brought home the hardware.

It’s his third consecutive Silver Slugger award, and frankly, the numbers make it hard to argue with the selection.

Historic Numbers

Ohtani set a franchise record with 55 home runs this season while scoring an incredible 146 runs. Those aren’t just good numbers – they’re generational.

Here’s what his 2024 campaign looked like:

  • 55 home runs, 102 RBIs
  • 1.014 OPS
  • 380 total bases
  • 109 walks

What makes this even more remarkable? This marks three straight seasons Ohtani has led his league in slugging percentage, OPS, and total bases. The consistency is what separates good players from legends.

He’s also well on track to capture his third consecutive MVP award, which would put him in truly elite company.

The Unicorn Returns

Ohtani’s been the catalyst behind the Dodgers’ consecutive World Series titles since signing before the 2024 season. But this year brought something special – the return of his two-way ability.

After focusing solely on hitting while recovering from elbow surgery, Ohtani returned to the mound in August. By September and throughout October, he was pitching at his absolute best.

That’s the “unicorn” ability that makes him unlike anyone else in baseball history.

The American League Silver Slugger winners will be announced Friday, completing the picture of who dominated offensively across both leagues this season.

For now though, it’s worth appreciating what we’re witnessing with Ohtani. Three straight years of this level of production, combined with his pitching when healthy, puts him in a category all his own.
