Luis Arraez is available, and that’s got plenty of teams interested in what might be the best contact bat on the market.
The 28-year-old first baseman spent the last year and a half with the San Diego Padres after Miami traded him mid-season in 2024. We’re talking about a three-time All-Star who’s drawn comparisons to Tony Gwynn for his ability to make consistent contact and avoid strikeouts.
That’s the kind of skill set every team values.
Multiple clubs are already positioning themselves for Arraez’s services, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray. The Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres are among the teams showing interest in the three-time batting champion.
“If the Rangers do pursue Arraez, they will have plenty of competition. The Padres remain interested in Arraez and intend to speak with his agent Dan Lozano, AJ Preller said at the GM Meetings. Other teams that could make sense for Arraez include the Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners.”
What makes the Padres’ interest particularly notable is they “need offense and value Arraez’s bat and his leadership,” as Murray pointed out.
The numbers back up the interest. During his 271 games with San Diego, Arraez posted a **.304 batting average** with a **.336 on-base percentage** and **.730 OPS**. He contributed **12 home runs** and **102 RBI** while typically batting in the top half of the lineup.
It’s not just about the stats, though. Arraez brings that rare combination of elite contact skills and veteran leadership that contending teams covet.
The Marlins make sense as a potential landing spot since they know what they had in Arraez. The Angels and Mariners could both use that kind of consistent offensive production.
Whatever organization lands him is getting a proven commodity – someone who can hit for average, get on base, and set the tone at the top of a lineup. Now it’s just a matter of which team makes the most compelling offer to bring that skillset to their clubhouse.
