Wilyer Abreu got almost all of it.
But the Red Sox right fielder didn’t quite hit his fly ball to deep right at Fenway far enough.
Dane Myers was there. He snagged the ball in his glove with a great running catch.
Except Myers ran into the fence.
And when that happened, the ball popped out.
And it landed beyond the fence.
From an out that wasn’t quite completed to a two-run homer for Abreu.
He robbed it!
Wait …

The blast marked Abreu’s 22nd homer of the season. He definitely hasn’t had one like that in his first 21.
It’s not quite the Jose Canseco off-the-noggin special, but it’s still pretty unique.
Myers’ frustration was obvious. All the Marlins outfielder could do was laugh.
It’s the kind of good fortune that Boston might need to keep its second-half surge going as it chases a playoff spot. They probably can’t count on any more assisted home runs the rest of the way.
But this one was worth two runs and gave them a 2-1 lead against a pesky Marlins team.
They’ll certainly take it.
