Rangers Eyeing Orioles’ Mullins as Potential Trade Target

The Texas Rangers have climbed back to .500 after winning three straight games, but their struggling offense might need reinforcement if they hope to defend their World Series title. Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins could be the answer.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that Mullins might be available as the Orioles look likely to sell after their disappointing start to 2025.

“You think about the Phillies being a tremendous fit, I could even see a team like the Rangers being a possible fit for Cedric Mullins,” Morosi said. “There are very few teams in baseball for whom he would not be a good fit and not add something meaningful to their player contributions.”

At 21-21, the Rangers have stabilized after a rocky start, but they’re still stuck in the middle of the AL West pack largely because their bats haven’t delivered consistent production. That’s where Mullins comes in.

The former All-Star and Silver Slugger is hitting just .229 this season, but don’t let that fool you. He’s tied for the Orioles team lead in home runs while posting a respectable .775 OPS and .435 slugging percentage. His power from the outfield position is exactly what the Rangers’ lineup has been missing.

Mullins is in the final year of his contract, making him a classic deadline acquisition target. The Rangers wouldn’t need to commit long-term, but they’d get an established bat who could help power them back into contention.

After finishing a disappointing 78-84 last season following their World Series championship, Texas seems determined to make another October run. Adding Mullins’ bat to the middle of their order might be just what they need to climb to the top of the AL West by season’s end.

The trade deadline is still months away, but if the Rangers stay in the hunt, expect them to be aggressive in pursuing offensive upgrades like Mullins.
