Mets Look to Build on NLCS Run with Star-Studded 2025 Lineup
The Mets will host the Toronto Blue Jays at Citi Field on April 4 for their 2025 home opener. It’ll be New York’s seventh game of the new campaign after starting the season in Houston.
Coming off an 89-73 season and a thrilling playoff run that ended in the NLCS, the Mets have reloaded for what they hope will be a championship push. The team made the offseason’s biggest splash by signing Juan Soto to a record 15-year deal while also bringing back franchise cornerstone Pete Alonso.
The 2024 Mets found their stride behind Francisco Lindor’s clutch performances and strong pitching from Sean Manaea, Jose Quintana, and Luis Severino. Mark Vientos emerged as a potential star, while Jose Iglesias’s singing and the unexpected Grimace from McDonald’s appearances brought good vibes to Flushing.
After mounting several comebacks against the Brewers and Phillies in the playoffs, the Mets eventually fell to the Dodgers in the NLCS, ending what had become a magical run.
The 2025 rotation will look different, but the Mets are hoping for a healthy Kodai Senga to anchor the staff. They’ve also added Jose Siri and Clay Holmes, while Luisangel Acuna could be ready to make an impact at the major league level.
The biggest question: What happens when Soto and Alonso share a lineup? The Mets are betting big that this power combination, along with Lindor, can push them over the top.
