Juan Soto didn’t mention the Mets when talking about his most enjoyable teams. That’s creating some buzz around New York.
Speaking with MLB Network’s Siera Santos, the outfielder reflected on his career highlights and the teams that made it special.
“2019 and 2024, those were really fun teams I played with, but this has to be top of the top. You have the whole family, the whole Dominican Republic cheering for you.”
The timeline tells the story. In 2019, Soto helped carry the Washington Nationals to a World Series championship – one of the more impressive playoff runs in recent memory. His 2024 season with the New York Yankees was another standout year, playing alongside a loaded lineup that made a deep postseason push.
What’s he’s not mentioning? His brief stint with the Mets.
Now, it’s not exactly shocking that a player would highlight winning seasons over other stops in their career. That’s just how these things work. But for Mets fans who were hoping their team left a lasting impression, this probably isn’t what they wanted to hear.
The way I see it, Soto’s focusing on the teams where everything clicked – championship runs, memorable moments, that kind of thing. Those tend to be the experiences that stick with players long after they’ve moved on.
All things considered, it’s a pretty honest answer from Soto. Players remember the teams that gave them their best memories, and winning tends to create those memories more than anything else.
