A heated confrontation between Patrick Mahomes Sr. and former MLB pitcher John Rocker nearly boiled over during Super Bowl week in New Orleans. The two ex-baseball players came face-to-face on the city’s streets, with tension quickly escalating before they ultimately separated without physical contact.

The incident, captured on video that’s now making rounds on social media, shows both men in an animated exchange. What makes this particularly interesting is their baseball history – though they never played together, there’s clearly some bad blood between them.

Mahomes Sr., father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, spent 11 seasons in MLB from 1992-2003. He was with the Mets when Rocker made his infamous racist comments about New York City and its residents, which might explain some of the animosity.

Rocker’s MLB career was considerably shorter but more controversial. A former Braves reliever, he spent just five seasons in the majors, becoming notorious for his heated exchanges with fans and reporters. The lefty was an 18th-round pick in 1993 and made it to the big leagues in 1998.

Here’s where things get interesting – the confrontation might not be as spontaneous as it first appeared. Barstool Sports, which recirculated the video, runs a celebrity boxing event called Rough N’ Rowdy. There’s talk that both men could be featured at an upcoming event.

After the video went viral, both men took to social media to fan the flames. “John Rocker is a menace to society,” Mahomes Sr. posted on X.

Rocker fired back with more intensity: “This f—ing loser can’t take a damn joke. Wish I laid him out right there and ruined his bulls— weekend even more.”

The timing and social media response certainly suggest this could be leading to something more organized – perhaps in a boxing ring rather than on Bourbon Street.
