Carson Benge hit a dribbler in front of the pitcher’s mound and somehow ended up crossing home plate as the third run in a sequence that’ll have Royals fans questioning everything.
The Mets rookie turned what should’ve been a routine groundout into a Little League home run, thanks to three Kansas City errors that unfolded like a comedy of errors in fast-forward.
It’s the kind of play that makes you wonder if someone switched the baseballs with bouncy balls.

Here’s how it all went sideways for Kansas City.
Former Mets pitcher Seth Lugo fielded Benge’s weak grounder and threw a one-hopper to first base. It was a long hop – makeable, but not easy. Jac Caglianone couldn’t handle it, and that’s where things started spiraling.
After chasing down the ball, Caglianone inexplicably threw it toward the area between third base and home plate. No runner was heading there. No logical reason for that throw.
That’s when third baseman Nick Loftin got involved in this mess. He tracked down Caglianone’s errant throw and tried to nail Bo Bichette at home plate.
He missed. Badly.
While all this was happening, Benge kept running. And running. Until he crossed home plate as the third run of what started as a harmless ground ball.
The Royals turned one out into three runs with a sequence that’ll probably show up in blooper reels for years. Sometimes baseball’s just weird like that.
