The Cleveland Guardians need offensive help with Jose Ramirez sidelined on the injured list, and they’re likely eyeing outfield upgrades before the deadline.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report connected them to Colorado’s Mickey Moniak, calling him a “pretty cheap” option who could fill that need perfectly.
Moniak’s putting up a .931 OPS this season while earning just $4 million – exactly the kind of player Cleveland typically targets.
“Colorado’s Mickey Moniak is also pretty cheap as far as salary goes, only making $4M this season. And he has one year of arbitration eligibility remaining before hitting free agency.”
Why Moniak Makes Sense
The financial fit is obvious. A $4 million salary barely registers for most teams, and having him under club control through 2025 makes it even more appealing for an organization that’s careful with payroll.
What makes this more interesting is Moniak’s current status. He’s on the IL with ankle tendonitis, which could drive down his trade cost significantly compared to what Colorado might’ve asked for when he was healthy and producing.
That’s where the Guardians could find their opportunity.
Cleveland’s offense has been inconsistent this season, and adding Moniak’s production would provide a legitimate boost. The .931 OPS speaks for itself – that’s the kind of impact bat they’ve been missing.
Perfect Timing
Everything about this potential fit aligns with how the Guardians operate. They prefer players with remaining team control, manageable salaries, and upside potential. Moniak checks all those boxes.
The injury situation might actually work in Cleveland’s favor here. Colorado could be motivated to move him while his value is temporarily depressed, giving the Guardians a chance to acquire him without parting with premium prospects.
All things considered, this connection makes too much sense to ignore. Moniak gives them the offensive upgrade they need, fits their financial parameters, and could be available at the right price given the circumstances.
