Jeff Kent was one of the more underrated hitters in the last quarter-century of baseball. The second baseman won the NL MVP for the San Francisco Giants in 2000, putting together a career that’s looking more Hall of Fame-worthy as time goes on.

Now, his son’s trying to follow in his footsteps.

Kaeden Kent is draft eligible heading into Sunday’s MLB Draft. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior started every game at shortstop for Texas A&M this season, and he’s turned into a legitimate prospect.

The numbers back it up. Kent batted .279 with 13 doubles, 13 homers and 49 RBI for the Aggies. He had 19 multi-hit games this spring and delivered one of those moments that’ll stick with him forever – a walk-off grand slam against South Carolina.

Kent’s definitely getting drafted. The question isn’t whether his name gets called, it’s whether he signs or heads back to College Station for his senior year.

That decision comes down to a few things: the money on the table, which organization selects him, and what he feels like he’s got left to accomplish in college ball.

All things considered, don’t be surprised if you’re hearing about this Kent working his way through the minor leagues sooner rather than later. The bloodlines are there, and so’s the production.
