The Dodgers are already off and running with a 2-0 start after sweeping the Cubs in the MLB Tokyo Series. Now, they’re heading back stateside to kick off the domestic portion of their season against the Tigers in Thursday’s home opener.
The reigning champs aren’t looking to loosen their grip on the throne anytime soon. They’re locked in for another title run, though the shifting MLB landscape could make their path to October even more interesting this year.
For the Tigers, this season marks a new chapter. In their first year without franchise icon Miguel Cabrera, Detroit caught fire down the stretch last season with a blistering 31-13 finish to clinch their first playoff berth in years.
That late-season surge completely transformed what had seemed like an endless rebuild. Tarik Skubal established himself as a Cy Young-winning ace, Riley Greene emerged as a cornerstone in the lineup, and suddenly the foundation for a long-term contender started taking shape.

- Date: Thursday, March 27
- Time: 4:10 p.m. ET | 3:10 p.m. CT
First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET on Thursday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Blake Snell has already been busy in Dodger blue this spring. He made two Cactus League appearances before taking the mound at Tokyo Dome against the Hanshin Tigers on March 15. In that exhibition start, he piled up 7 strikeouts but gave up a three-run homer over 4 1/3 innings. This isn’t Snell’s first Opening Day rodeo – he’s previously gotten the honor with both the Rays and Padres.
On the other side, Tarik Skubal looks like he hasn’t missed a beat from his dominant 2024 campaign. He came out firing a 100 mph heater in his very first Spring Training inning, kept hitters off balance with his refined breaking pitches, and continued developing the changeup that gave right-handed batters fits last season.
