Dodgers Could Target White Sox’s Martín Pérez to Bolster Rotation
The Dodgers are off to a solid start this season, but they’re likely eyeing additional rotation help as the trade deadline approaches. The Chicago White Sox might have just what they need.
Los Angeles learned the hard value of pitching depth last season, and their current rotation is filled with injury concerns. Newsweek’s Andrew Wright recently identified the Dodgers as a potential landing spot for White Sox lefty Martín Pérez.
“The Dodgers always need more pitching, right? With a rotation full of players with injury history (Tyler Glasnow, Dustin May, Blake Snell and Clayton Kershaw) the reigning World Series champions are almost certain to look to add pitching at the trade deadline,” Wright wrote.
“Pérez is a reliable arm who has made 20-plus starts in every season since 2016 (excluding COVID) and he would be the exact type of arm that manager Dave Roberts would love to have running out to start Game 3 or 4 of a series after the likes of a Yamamoto or Sasaki.”
The Dodgers do have some internal options. Tony Gonsolin, Landon Knack and Bobby Miller provide depth, but they’re not the reliable playoff-caliber arms needed for another championship run. That’s where someone like Pérez comes in.
What makes Pérez particularly attractive is his consistency and durability – qualities the Dodgers’ current rotation lacks. The 33-year-old lefty was an All-Star with Texas in 2022 and has started strong this season with a 3.15 ERA through four starts.
The White Sox are headed toward seller territory at the deadline, making Pérez a likely trade candidate. His contract situation is also appealing – he’s making just $5 million this year with a mutual option for 2026 that includes a $1.5 million buyout. While cost isn’t typically an issue for the Dodgers, getting a reliable starter at that price point is still excellent value.

The Dodgers have shown time and again they won’t risk a World Series run with questionable starting pitching. With their current rotation’s injury history, don’t be surprised if they make a move for a steady arm like Pérez before the deadline hits.
