Mookie Betts is trading his World Series ring for a coaching whistle. The Dodgers superstar will coach at the Ruffles Celebrity Game during NBA All-Star Weekend on Friday, Feb. 13 at Intuit Dome.
The eight-time All-Star just wrapped up his second straight championship with L.A., and now he’s diving deeper into the city’s sports scene. Can’t say we’re surprised – Betts has always been a natural competitor across different arenas.
Per the NBA’s All-Star Weekend X account, the seven-time Silver Slugger and six-time Gold Glove winner will be joined by some big names from the music world. Grammy-winning producer Mustard and hip-hop star GloRilla are among the newly announced participants, the league announced.
Tickets are available now if you want to see how Betts handles the sidelines.
All-Star Starters Set, But Injuries Loom
The All-Star Game’s 10 starters have been locked in, though injuries might shake things up. The East features two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham, and Tyrese Maxey.
Problem is, Antetokounmpo’s dealing with a calf strain that’ll keep him out four-to-six weeks. That means the Bucks star will need a replacement in the starting lineup.
Out West, it’s Stephen Curry, three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Victor Wembanyama getting the nod.
Jokic’s been sidelined for several weeks with his own knee injury. Like Giannis, there’s a real chance the Nuggets center misses the festivities entirely.
All things considered, it’s shaping up to be an interesting weekend in L.A. – with Betts bringing that championship energy to the celebrity game while the league’s biggest stars work through their injury concerns.
