The Los Angeles Dodgers are bringing back an old friend.

They’ve re-signed catcher Chuckie Robinson to a minor-league contract, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Robinson spent a good chunk of the 2025 season in the Dodgers’ organization after beginning it with the Angels. He played in just one game at the MLB level for LA before finishing the year with the Atlanta Braves, who outrighted him off their 40-man roster in November.

It’s a low-risk move that gives the Dodgers experienced catching depth.

Robinson has appeared in 52 MLB games total – 25 with the Cincinnati Reds in 2022 and 26 with the Chicago White Sox in 2024. The offensive numbers aren’t pretty: he’s hitting just *.131* in 138 MLB plate appearances.

But that’s not why teams keep signing him.

Robinson’s reputation is built on his defense behind the plate. In his Triple-A career, he’s posted a .268 average with a .734 OPS, showing he can contribute offensively at that level. What makes him valuable is his ability to handle a pitching staff and call a game.

The Dodgers still have Will Smith as their primary catcher and Dalton Rushing in the mix, so Robinson’s highly likely to open the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City. That’s fine by LA – having a veteran defensive catcher who knows the organization is the kind of depth that pays off when injuries hit.

It’s exactly the type of move that flies under the radar but could matter come September.
