At 87-69, Seattle’s got some breathing room heading into the final week. Their magic number sits at three – any combination of Mariners wins and Astros losses that adds up to three clinches the division.
The Mariners get Monday off. MLB kept most teams out of action today, likely saving the day for potential makeup games and giving clubs a chance to set up for the final push.
Seattle’s back in action Tuesday night when they host Colorado at 6:40 p.m. Pacific Time. From there, it’s a six-game homestand that wraps up the regular season.
What makes this interesting is all six remaining games come against NL West opponents:
- Sept. 23-25: Rockies (6:40 p.m. starts)
- Sept. 26-27: Dodgers (6:40 p.m. starts)
- Sept. 28: Dodgers (12:10 p.m. finale)
The way things are set up, Seattle could wrap this thing up pretty quickly. Three wins against Colorado would do it, assuming Houston doesn’t go perfect the rest of the way.
