The Arizona Diamondbacks are battling for a postseason spot, and Corbin Carroll is putting together another exceptional season that could carry them there.

Carroll’s leading MLB with 15 triples while adding 18 home runs, 16 stolen bases, and posting an .837 OPS through 120 games. The numbers are eye-catching on their own, but they’re part of something much bigger.

He’s quietly assembled one of the most unique statistical profiles in baseball history.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale noted that Carroll has joined Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio as the only players to reach 100 home runs and 56 triples within their first 610 career games.

“Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll has quietly produced 100 homers and 56 triples in 606 career games, with only immortals Lou Gehrig and DiMaggio accomplishing the feat in their first 610 career games.”

That’s the kind of company that puts Carroll’s production into perspective. We’re talking about two of baseball’s all-time legends here.

Through 608 games, Carroll sits at 100 home runs and 58 triples. He’s the active triples leader and could make a run at some all-time marks if he stays healthy.

But there’s more. Nightengale also pointed out that Carroll holds an even more exclusive record – he’s the only player in history with 100 homers, 50 triples, and 100 stolen bases within a player’s first 650 games.

His current totals: 100 homers, 58 triples, and 139 stolen bases in 608 games.

What makes Carroll different is that combination of power and speed that’s become increasingly rare in today’s game. Players typically choose one path or the other – Carroll’s mastered both.

The Diamondbacks have 42 games left for Carroll to extend these numbers, and every addition makes his statistical profile more unique. That solo record is impressive, but being mentioned alongside Gehrig and DiMaggio shows just how special Carroll’s early career has been.

If Arizona’s going to secure that playoff spot, they’ll need Carroll to keep producing at this level. Based on the company he’s keeping historically, that seems like a pretty safe bet.
