“We’re going to have to go out and acquire relievers in the offseason in different ways to get our bullpen to where we expect it to be in 2027,” he said, per SNY.
“We’re also excited for some of the members of our ‘pen going forward who are going to have a chance to contribute who we think are going to do a very good job.”
That’s the reality check Mets fans needed to hear. Stearns isn’t sugarcoating this – they’re basically starting from scratch in the bullpen.
With most of their key players gone except Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto, the next two months should really be an extended audition. Want to see what you’ve got in the bullpen? In the lineup? In the rotation? Now’s the time.
They’ve got plenty to figure out. The way forward means either bringing in proven major league talent or giving the next wave of guys their shot.
