Kerry Wood took the mound at Wrigley Field on Saturday night, but this wasn’t your typical Cubs appearance.
The Chicago legend was wearing the bright yellow uniform of the Savannah Bananas, part of their Banana-Ball tour that brings back fan favorites in each city they visit.
What happened next? Wood delivered something no one saw coming.
From the standard pitching rubber – all 60 feet, 6 inches from home plate – he threw a pitch behind-the-back. And it wasn’t just for show.

Look, Wood’s thrown some memorable pitches at Wrigley. That 20-strikeout game back in ’98 comes to mind.
But this? This is a whole different kind of impressive.
Every part of that delivery requires precision – the motion, the release point, the arm strength, keeping everything fluid while throwing blind. To have it cross the plate for a strike is just the perfect finishing touch.
Wood probably worked on this beforehand. Had to, right? If he somehow pulled this off on his first try, that’d be even more ridiculous.
Even with practice, though, it’s the kind of thing that makes you appreciate what these guys can do with a baseball. The Bananas know how to put on a show, and bringing back a legend like Wood to do something like this? That’s exactly why their tour keeps drawing crowds.
It might not be 20 strikeouts, but it’s pretty dang memorable in it’s own way.
