The Milwaukee Brewers signed outfielder Dasan Brown to a minor league deal, adding a speed threat who could develop into their next pinch-running specialist.

Javik Blake, a broadcaster for Double-A Biloxi in the Brewers organization, announced the signing of the 24-year-old from Oakville, Canada. Brown spent six seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays system, reaching Triple-A Buffalo.

Here’s what makes Brown intriguing: he stole 36 bases in 40 attempts across 101 games between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo in 2025. That’s a 90% success rate.

The hitting? That’s where things get complicated.

Brown struggled at the plate in 86 games at Double-A, hitting .175/.286/.249 with three homers and a .535 OPS. His career .332 on-base percentage shows he’s still figuring out how to get on base consistently.

But every contending team needs a guy who can change games with his legs. The Dodgers used Justin Dean as their pinch-runner and defensive replacement in last year’s World Series. Terrance Gore became famous playing that exact role for the Royals in their 2014 and 2015 playoff runs.

For Milwaukee, which loves manufacturing runs and putting pressure on defenses, Brown fits their style perfectly. The Brewers emphasize contact and moving runners – exactly the situations where a guy like Brown becomes valuable.

The path forward is pretty clear. If Brown wants regular at-bats, he’ll need to find a way to reach base more often. But as a late-inning weapon who can steal second and third with the game on the line?

That’s a role that can extend careers and win playoff games.
