Braves Star Hits for Tricycle Instead of Completing Cycle with Single

Braves Star Hits for Tricycle Instead of Completing Cycle with Single image

Michael Harris II hasn’t had a great season. He’s been one of many disappointments in what’s been a rough campaign for the Atlanta Braves.

On Saturday, though, he flipped the script. And he did it in incredible fashion.

Harris stepped into the ninth inning having already hit a double, a triple and a home run. All he needed was a single to complete the cycle.

But when his liner to left skipped past the outfielder, Harris didn’t stop at first base.

He raced all the way to third.

No cycle. We’ll call it a tricycle.

Michael Harris II needed a single for the cycle

Instead he hit another triple

A double, two triples and a homer. That’s the kind of line that shows up maybe once every few years across all of baseball.

Harris scored what looked like the go-ahead run, though the Braves’ season continued on its familiar course with a blown lead and extra-inning loss.

The way I see it, this could be exactly what Harris needed. He looked like a rising star not too long ago, winning Rookie of the Year and helping Atlanta to the playoffs.

At 23, there’s still plenty of time for him to get back on track. This performance – even without the cycle – might be the jumpstart that gets him going again.

That’d at least give Atlanta something to feel good about in what’s been a forgettable season.
