The Atlanta Braves pulled off one of the more creative bonus strategies you’ll see in the 2026 MLB Draft.

They signed three middle-round picks for $500 each.

That’s not a typo. Five hundred dollars. Not $500K.

Here’s how it works: Every team gets a predetermined bonus pool for the draft. Save money on certain picks, and you’ve got more cash to throw at the prospects you really want to lock up.

The Braves freed up $653,300 by paying bare-minimum bonuses to their eighth, ninth, and tenth-round selections – Jacob Jarrell, Parker Brosius, and Ben Zeigler-Namoa.

All three are college seniors, which is key. They’re betting on themselves and taking the shot at pro ball, even for what amounts to gas money.

Jarrell caught at Clemson and put up serious power numbers this spring – 18 home runs in 54 games. That’s the kind of production that gets noticed, even in the middle rounds.

Brosius patrolled the outfield at Georgia Tech and launched 13 homers himself this season. Solid college production from an ACC program.

Zeigler-Namoa brings a different profile from Hawaii – more of a contact guy who doesn’t strike out much, with some gap power and speed mixed in.

It’s an extreme version of bonus pool manipulation, but that extra $653K can make the difference in signing a talented high schooler who might otherwise head to college. The Braves are banking on the entire draft class working out collectively rather than maximizing individual bonuses.

For these three college seniors, it’s their best shot at reaching the majors. Sometimes that’s worth more than the upfront money.
