The Toronto Blue Jays aren’t exactly lighting up 2026, especially after coming so close to a World Series title last year. This roster’s got issues, with players performing well below what anyone expected.
But that doesn’t mean the fans have checked out. The best proof? The latest All-Star fan voting results.
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale shared the first wave of voting, and it’s wild what Blue Jays fans have managed to pull off, especially for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Somehow, they’ve voted Guerrero into first place as the AL All-Star first baseman. He’s got 603,014 votes, ahead of the Yankees’ Ben Rice at 509,830.
Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox sits third with 437,107 votes, while the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz has 269,658.
The Numbers Don’t Add Up
Here’s the thing – all three of those guys deserve the starting job more than Guerrero this season. Rice is posting a .998 OPS. Kurtz has a .974 OPS. Murakami’s at .938.
Even Willson Contreras of the Red Sox, who only got 177,884 votes, is sitting at a .966 OPS.
Guerrero? He’s down at a .738 OPS this season.
Three homers. Slugging far worse than he ever has. There are nine American League first basemen with better OPS marks than Guerrero, yet he’s leading the vote.
Jake Burger, Kody Clemens, Pete Alonso, Christian Walker, and Jonathan Aranda all have higher OPS numbers than Guerrero. Only Burger’s below .800.
It’s Not Just Guerrero
The Blue Jays fan takeover goes way deeper than that. Alejandro Kirk, who’s played seven games this season, is in the top two at catcher. Andres Gimenez with his .620 OPS is up there at second base.
Kazuma Okamoto, George Springer, and Ernie Clement all placed in the top two at their positions.
In the outfield, Daulton Varsho, Jesus Sanchez, and Myles Straw all cracked the top 10 with at least 272,973 votes each.
Blue Jays fans have completely taken over the All-Star voting again, even though Clement might be the only guy in that lineup who actually deserves to be there this season.
It’s impressive fan loyalty, no question. Whether it makes sense for the game itself? That’s a different conversation entirely.
