The Atlanta Braves made several roster moves Tuesday, headlined by releasing right-handed pitcher Daysbel Hernandez after three seasons with the organization.
The moves come as Atlanta prepares to open a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates following a weekend split with the New York Mets.
Multiple Roster Changes
The Braves also optioned Owen Murphy back to Triple-A Gwinnett just one day after the right-handed prospect made his MLB debut Monday evening.
That’s where Connor Thomas comes in. The left-handed pitcher got the call-up to fill Murphy’s roster spot.
The team also recalled reliever James Karinchak from the minors while placing Tyler Kinley on the paternity list. Kinley will likely be away from the team for a couple days.

Hernandez’s Braves Tenure Ends
Hernandez’s release closes the book on a three-year run with Atlanta that showed flashes but never quite came together. He pitched 58.2 innings across those seasons with a solid 3.38 ERA.
The 2025 season looked promising early on. Hernandez threw 37 innings with a 3.41 ERA before an injury derailed his campaign. He hasn’t pitched in the majors this season, essentially taking up a 40-man roster spot without being able to contribute.
From the organization’s perspective, that’s exactly the type of situation where you need to make a move. They’re not looking to carry players who can’t help the team right now, especially with other prospects needing opportunities.
All things considered, it’s a practical decision that opens up flexibility for Atlanta as they navigate the rest of their roster construction.
