The Houston Astros activated right-handed pitcher Luis Garcia from the 60-day IL for his 2025 debut Monday morning. The team also brought back outfielder Taylor Trammell from the 10-day IL.

But that’s just the beginning of Houston’s injury comeback story.

The Astros could get three more key pieces back soon – catcher Victor Caratini, outfielder Zach Dezenzo and centerfielder Jake Meyers, according to MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart.

Caratini hasn’t been in the lineup since Aug. 26 after taking two foul ball deflections off his face mask during games against Baltimore and Colorado. He was placed on the seven-day concussion IL on Aug. 27.

The veteran catcher did some running and threw to bases Monday and could be activated Wednesday, per manager Joe Espasa.

Dezenzo’s been working his way back through a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Sugar Land. The outfielder said he’s got five more scheduled rehab games but is feeling good about his progress with the lingering hand injury.

Meyers hasn’t played since July 9 while recovering from a right calf strain. What makes his absence particularly notable is how well he was playing before getting hurt.

Meyers could rejoin the team this weekend when Houston travels to Arlington for their series against the Texas Rangers.

Getting Healthy at the Right Time

August was a mixed bag for the Astros. They went just 13-15 but started getting major pieces back from the trainer’s table. That momentum’s carried into September.

Houston already welcomed back slugger Yordan Alvarez and pitchers Cristian Javier, Spencer Arrighetti and Lance McCullers. The one big loss was closer Josh Hader, but getting three more contributors back could help offset that blow.

All three players could return within the next week, giving Houston a much deeper roster as they head into the season’s final stretch.

The Astros wrap up their four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels Monday afternoon before potentially getting reinforcements for the playoff push.
