The Houston Astros bounced back with a 4-0 win over the Colorado Rockies, snapping a two-game skid to start the week. It wasn’t just any win though – Yordan Alvarez launched his first home run since fracturing his hand in May, while Framber Valdez dominated through seven scoreless innings.
Sure, it came against the league’s worst team, but Houston’s focused on maintaining their AL West lead while managing a lengthy injury list.
Speaking of that injury list, there’s good news on the Jake Meyers front. The Sugar Land Space Cowboys announced Wednesday that the outfielder started a rehab assignment after missing time since early July with a right calf strain.

The timing of Meyers’ injury couldn’t have been worse. The 29-year-old was putting together the best season of his career through 89 games, slashing .308/.369/.405 with a .774 OPS. Those aren’t flashy power numbers – just three homers and 21 RBIs – but that’s solid production from a guy who’s been a valuable depth piece.
In his first rehab game, Meyers went 1-for-4 with one strikeout. Nothing spectacular, but it’s a start after being sidelined for over a month.
What makes this return significant is Houston’s need for outfield depth while they’re dealing with multiple injuries. Meyers has carved out a role as a reliable fourth outfielder who can handle center field and contribute offensively.
Based on typical rehab timelines, the Astros are probably looking at getting Meyers back sometime in late August or early September – right when they’ll need all hands on deck for the stretch run.
