Angels’ Adell exits with hip tightness, says he’s “not too concerned”
Jo Adell left Saturday’s game with left hip tightness after beating out an infield single in the fifth inning of the Angels’ 1-0 win over the White Sox.
The Angels center fielder downplayed the injury after the game. “I felt a little something running down the line. I’m not too concerned,” Adell said. “Just a precautionary thing. Felt like tightness to me.”
Manager Ron Washington echoed Adell’s assessment, saying it’s “nothing we have to be too concerned about.”
Jo Adell looked like he pulled something legging out an infield hit. He’s out of the game. Kyren Paris is in.
It’s 0-0 in the 5th
Rookie Kyren Paris replaced Adell in center field. Paris was already scheduled to start in center Sunday, so the timing works out for the Angels’ short-term plans.
Adell is expected to be day-to-day and likely available off the bench for Sunday’s series finale against Chicago.
This setback comes at a particularly frustrating time for the 25-year-old outfielder. With Mike Trout shifting to right field this season and Mickey Moniak being released just days before Opening Day, Adell finally had a clear path to regular playing time in center field.
It’s been a bumpy road for the former top prospect, who’s posted a .649 OPS across 309 career games while struggling to establish himself at the major league level.
The Angels won Saturday’s contest 1-0 behind Jose Soriano’s seven shutout innings. Yoan Moncada’s infield single provided the game’s only run as the Halos look to secure the series win Sunday afternoon.
