The Angels might be onto something special this season.
Nobody expected Anaheim to contend in 2024 — a familiar story for a franchise that’s spent the past decade watching October baseball from home. But these Angels keep finding ways to win, and Jo Adell became the latest hero Sunday against the Giants.
Down 4-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Angels refused to go quietly. They scratched one run across and loaded the bases for Adell, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
The former top prospect didn’t waste the opportunity. Adell ripped a liner into the left-field corner, clearing the bases as his teammates sprinted home. One run, two runs, three runs, ballgame.

It’s fitting that Zach Neto, just back from injury, slid headfirst into home with the winning run. The Angels’ hot start this season came largely without Neto, who was arguably their best player last year. That makes their early success even more impressive.
Now with Neto back in the lineup, things are looking up in Anaheim.
The win improved the Angels to 11-10, keeping them just a game back in a tightly contested AL West. The way this division is shaping up, every win could matter come September. Adell’s clutch hit might be one they look back on if this surprising start turns into something more.
